As I was watching Andrew Sullivan and Christopher Hitches debate the Wright sermons on the Tim Russert Show, an interesting parallel presented itself that I had not previously considered. Obama’s unwillingness to disown Wright or the black community, yet remain firm in his conviction of the need to transcend a strictly racialized politics has earned him a fair deal of ire, despite what Hitchens might argue.
